Winter Quarter Evening Classes

Join us for weekly evening classes! Have great discussions with your peers about topics that matter to you, learn life hacks for relationships and tips for being more confident, then melt your stresses away with a mindfulness activity.

Learn the secrets for killer self-confidence, happiness, achieving your dreams, handling conflicts in any relationship, and managing stress… all with your peers who are ready to crush whatever holds them back, just like you. LET’S DO THIS!

Teens will get the opportunity to practice stress-busting activities in these High School classes and Middle School classes (held separately, divided by age group) while learning skills to improve self-esteem, confidence, body image, self-talk, and gaining tools for communicating effectively and managing satisfying relationships.

These mental, emotional, physical, and social wellness classes also include teen peer-driven supported discussions such as the big topics in last year’s Quarter Classes, which were about conflict strategizing for dating and friendships, communicating with parents, surviving the social isolation of a pandemic, body image – body image – body image (that’s not a typo), combatting hopelessness of mass-shooting events and environmental concerns (no politics, just coping skills for things you can’t control), and finding meaning in your life through connecting with others using empathy, gratitude, and kindness. YOU ARE NOT ALONE WHEN YOU ARE WITH EMPOWERTEEN! There is always hope.

Whatever topic is relevant to you that week and in current events, we will discuss it together, gain strategies and tools based on scientific research, practice scenarios together, and you will leave each session with REAL TIME SKILLS and practices to use IMMEDIATELY in your daily life.

No prior experiences necessary! Drop-ins welcome! COME WHEN YOU CAN AND BENEFIT FOR LIFE!

STOP SETTLING in your life. You deserve BETTER!

Hey teens! We’ve got some exciting things for you to look forward to this summer. You’ll be honing your self-improvement skills, teamwork skills, have fun and even develop some leadership skills through the course of the week.

FUN VIRTUAL FORMAT…
This virtual summer retreat will be fun, interactive and engaging while nicely balancing physical activity and labs with skill lessons, peer discussions, and practicing new life tools, and will even include SCREEN-FREE activities!

NOTHING LIKE ONLINE SCHOOL…
We will keep your teen from boring of dull on-screen time (and protect their eyes) by keeping the sections short and alternating to keep their interest piqued with just the right amount of well-timed breaks.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE…
They will get opportunities to choose between different lessons and activities that interest them most and go into the breakout room session of their choice. This gives them the control to have a retreat experience they find most relevant to them.

BONDING AND FRIENDS…

We know how important it is for teens to have something to look forward to this summer, so we wanted to create anticipation and show we care!

Your teen will look forward to the fun and variety of each day, while making new friends and gaining more confidence in the process! What can we say? It’s Empowerteen! 🙂

Live Virtual Dance Parties!

Being stuck inside doesn't have to be boring! Dr. Paula Is hosting live online dance parties throughout the weeks to keep us moving, laughing, and connected. SAY WHAT??!!!

LET’S DANCE TOGETHER!

Dancing is one of many fun activities we do here at Empowerteen. It is a great way to get sweaty, release emotions, let go of frustrations and fears of unknowns, and activate those fabulous neurochemicals, endorphins, which dramatically boost mood and outlook.

We’re all stuck at home… no in-person socializing, no big gatherings or events, and exercise can be somewhat limited by the circumstances. Not to despair! You can get together with us at these dance parties virtually, and all you need is a smart phone or tablet or computer and a way to connect online (internet, WiFi, cellular connection).

Dr. Paula is hosting live virtual dance parties 4 days a week! Teens and friends and parents and sisters and brothers are all welcome to tune in and get moving. This is a great opportunity to get a workout in and also try something new, while connecting with others who are getting their dance on with you! The smiles and grooves are contagious, too!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Join Dr. Paula’s Facebook Group to stay updated, check out announcements, schedule, links to join classes live, and interact with other members who love the parties, too. Join here:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/drpauladance

Don’t have a Facebook account? You can send an email to [email protected] and the link and password to join classes will be sent to you. Instagram user? DM us and we will send you the info to have and share with your friends there.

???????????? DON’T LOOK!:

Don’t worry about feeling embarrassed if this is new for you. This is an inclusive class for all experience levels so to prevent intimidation you’ll be able to block your video view from the group if you’d like. Don’t let messy hair, messy room or incoordination stop you from coming! This is GOOD FOR BODY-MIND-SOUL!!!

Do yourself this favor.

Laugh, sweat, run out of breath, and get some burn in your thighs, abs, buns ‘n such, in the comfort of your own living room. It’s a fun way to connect outside of our homes socially and still get our fitness on! ???? (while keeping everyone safe)

???? PLEASE READ:
Each fitness class will be at least 50-60 min long which includes a cool-down and stretch. If you are interested in getting in a good strength session (squats, push-ups, abs, resistance exercises, etc), and a deeper relaxing stretch, you can stick around for an additional 15-25 min and join in for that part, too! You can always duck out whenever you need to.

PARTY TIME:
Please aim to join class 5-10 min early so we can start on time and you can avoid tech glitches or slow-downs causing you to miss out. Once Dr. Paula is teaching it’s harder for her to stop and help people trying to get in, but you can still get in if you’re late.

Teen Girls Summer Retreat 2

Join us for another retreat away from stresses with your peers as we dive into more topics that matter to you, and add-on new activities, DIY product-making labs, and more! You don't need to be at Week 1 to enjoy the benefits of Week 2.

Teen Girls Week 2 Summer Retreat

Our retreats are powerful opportunities to have fun and to “go deep” into the practices we teach at Empowerteen. Retreats are transformative experiences and many of our participants will point to life-changing exercises and conversations they’ve had during these special times.

At this summer retreat you’ll escape to the beautiful Jenkins Estate with other teen girls of the same age, and practice tools designed to empower you to be more confident, skilled, and successful. The retreats are led by physician Dr. Paula Pilcher and other health professional specialists, who will teach participants using activities, projects, games, labs and self-improvement lessons scientifically proven to improve self-esteem and body image, self talk, build healthy relationships, live with respect, stop bad cycles, cope with stress, cultivate mindfulness and love themselves. We meet each day at the Jenkins Estate from 9am-3pm. Come prepared for yoga, dancing, hiking, laughs and more. CLICK HERE for video testimonials about the retreats.

Examples of what to expect at the Week 2 Retreat:

Activities -tai chi, self-defense (martial arts), dancing, yoga, nature hikes, meditation, pilates, deep breathing, herb garden tour, veggie garden tour, music therapy, art therapy, drama therapy, and more

Labs -we make organic DIY customized chapstick, aromatherapy products, vegan chocolate truffle lab, herbal tea taste-testing and blending lab, future message in a bottle, and more…

Lessons– nutrition for mood and hormone balancing, how to deal with failure, rejection, and self-limiting beliefs, confidence, self talk, body image, communication, relationships, conflict resolution, stress management, prepping for the changing future of careers and work, finding success in your life and loving yourself along the way, dating, respect and boundaries, empathy, gratitude, kindness, disconnecting from digital devices, brainwave techniques for anxiety and depression, and much more…

Self-Talk Track- We have professional self-talk therapy coach, Rachel Leigh founder of ProActive Vision, teach them elite mindset management strategies to claim authority over their mental game. She helps each participant create a unique goals-centered personal self-talk therapy soundtrack which she will go over with each participant to be sure it is worded to get the best effects. Then they will each get a chance to individually do a recording with her set to optimal brainwave pulses in the background of the recording of the soundtrack of their own voice. You get to keep this soundtrack to listen to often as a powerful tool to deal with self-limiting beliefs and reach the goals you have set out. This coach has had amazing outcomes working with teen athletic teams! Check out more about what she does at Proactivevision.net

Pocket Moods- We also get to make traveling aromatherapy inhalers individualized to each participant’s needs that are pocket-sized and ready for daily needs complete with decorative self-affirmation label and deep-breathing effects. A super fun and unique way to bring 3 tools together to deal with an immediate need to focus, or calm down when feeling anxious, or lift up out of the blues, or strength in a moment of weakness, or just a reminder that you rock. Teens have reported back that they use them a lot and they’re a mainstay in their purses, backpacks, and jacket pockets.

Dream Careers- Jen Coyne, Co-founder and Principal of The PEAK Fleet, will be teaching participants about how to prepare for the future of work and its ever changing tapestries. Considering that 65% of kids in school today will work in jobs that don’t exist yet, and that it is expected that by 2020 50% of the full-time American workforce will be freelancers, Jen leads them in activities and projects that will help them to consider how to prepare in High School and College with the values that will put them ahead in any future career of the new and changing workforce of the future including persistence, empathy, authenticity, and kindness. They will get a chance to dream up the society of their future and their roles in it by creating futuristic newspaper articles and personal message in a bottle that they get to keep.

Most of the participants say their absolute favorite part of the retreats is the Share Group each day, where we get to dive deep and discuss the REAL issues they all are facing and connect and create community and bonding with peers who understand and feel the same way. It completely opens up their world and is life transforming!! ????

Escape to the beautiful Jenkins Estate with other tweens of the same age, and practice tools designed to empower you to be more confident, skilled, and successful, all while making new friends, having fun, and getting away from it all!

Tween Girls Retreats

Our retreats are powerful opportunities to have fun and to “go deep” into the practices we teach at Empowerteen. Retreats are transformative experiences and many of our participants will point to life-changing exercises and conversations they’ve had during these special times.

These retreats are an opportunity her to escape to the beautiful Jenkins Estate with other tweens of the same age, and practice tools designed to empower her to be more confident, skilled, and successful. The retreats are led by physician Dr. Paula Pilcher and other health professional specialists, who will teach them using activities, projects, and lessons scientifically proven to improve self-esteem and body image, self talk, build healthy relationships, live with respect, stop bad cycles, cope with stress, cultivate mindfulness and love themselves. We meet each day at the Jenkins Estate from 9am-3pm. Come prepared for yoga, dancing, hiking and more. CLICK HERE for video testimonials of the retreats.

Examples of what to expect at the Week 1 Retreat:

Activities -dancing, yoga, nature hikes, meditation, pilates, myo-fascial releasing, deep breathing, herb garden tour, and more
Labs -you’ll work on your vision board project throughout the week, and make DIY organic skincare products from scratch customized to your skin’s individual needs including cleanser, toner, acne spot treatment, lotion, and more…
Lessons– confidence, self talk, body image, communication, relationships/friendships, bullying and girl cattiness, conflict resolution, stress management, nature and the cross-crawl technique, nutrition for skincare, letting go of labels and self-limiting beliefs, finding success in your life and loving yourself along the way, respect and boundaries, empathy, gratitude, kindness, disconnecting from digital devices, and much more…

Most of the participants say their absolute favorite part of both of the retreats is the Share Group each day, where we get to dive deep and discuss the REAL issues they all are facing and connect and create community and bonding with peers who understand and feel the same way. It completely opens up their world and is life transforming!! ????

What can I expect?

When you arrive you’ll be at the brand newly moved-into Empowerteen Headquarters, where teen evening classes, workshops, socials, fundraisers and other events will take place from now on. You’ll be greeted by smiling Empowerteens who have been in the program for 2-5 years, as well as volunteer staff and student interns who make the program great.

The workshop will be kicked off by Empowerteen founder and director, Dr. Paula Pilcher of Pilcher Health and Bodyworks, who will share insights with you on all you need to know to break old thought patterns based on the latest in neuroscience and endocrinology. It’s your 25 minute primer to prep your brain with the rewiring tools it needs to shift out of whatever’s holding you back from your goal.

Next it’s time to get back to basics with a fun activity. Jen Coyne, co-founder of the revolutionary enterprise, The PEAK Fleet, will lead you through an exercise that will help you discover your core values. The mission of this activity is to help you focus in on how you can live your life authentically by value-driven goals and intention. The teens love this activity because they learn a lot about themselves that surprises them. No doubt you will, too.

Now that you’re all “out with the old, ready for the new”, and zeroed in on what values matter most to you, Life Coach and Nutrition Specialist, Wanda McKenzie, will give you tools to help you really find clarity of intention with your goal. Sometimes a goal seems unreachable and we somehow manage to set ourselves up to fail. Wanda is going to give you the skills and insight to declutter and find opportunities to succeed in the journey toward that goal.

We’ll move one Suite over from the conference room into the serenity of the Empowerteen Classroom where Maui Ramos, co-founder of Jiva Journeys Yoga Events, will lead us in a mindfulness meditation designed to help you set your goal intention, discover your authentic self, visualize your empowerment word, and relax away the stresses of the world. Once fully rejuvenated and with your empowerment word in your mind’s eye, we’ll move back into the conference room to put that word into view.

Lastly, during the DIY Product Lab, it’s time to put everything together and etch your empowerment word into a piece of colored glass of your choosing. You’ll  grab varying supplies and multi-media materials to create your very own stained glass sun catcher mobile. Take this sun catcher home and hang it in a window where you can see it as a reminder of the intention you set during this workshop. Every time you see light shine through it, let it continue to help you move through your life with value-driven purpose.

Our guest speaker and benefit co-host, Jen Coyne, is also a local artist who creates beautiful pieces of blown glass art. She will be donating the glass pieces for the product lab to make the personalized glass etchings and sun catchers, as well as a donation made by Marilyn Hendrick.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

????Q: “Do we have to do group activities and interact with others doing “get-to-know-you” things during the Adults Empowerment Workshop?”

????A: “No! Each section of the workshop is succinct and the focus is on personal development and growth. You can keep to yourself and make this a solo empowerment journey if that’s what feels more focused for you. You are also welcome to interact with others or bring a friend or family member if that is more your speed. Either way you’ll be greeted by lots of friendly smiling faces who are just grateful you have supported Empowerteens by attending the Workshop Benefit.”????

????Q: “I’m working on a project with my co-workers, could I bring them with me to the Adults Empowerment Workshop and make this a team-building event?”

????A: “Yes! This would be a great opportunity for you to collaborate with your team members and set your project intention together based on your personal values. In fact, we encourage it! You’ll discover what values you share together and how each of you brings a different dimension to the table with unique core values. BONUS! You will have also supported Empowerteens by attending the Workshop Benefit.”????

????Q: “Is the Adults Empowerment Workshop for Women only? Should I leave my spouse at home?”

????A: “No! All are welcome who are ready to live with authenticity and reach their values-driven goals. You’ll find the empowerment you’ve been looking for here and help teens in the process, and THAT feels good no matter who you are… so c’mon now, tell ALL of your friends.”????

????Q: “I have visitors coming in from out of town that weekend. Should I bring them to the Adults Empowerment Workshop?”

????A: “Yes! What’s more true-to-Portland-touristy than a unique event such as this? It’s a short and meaningful 3.5 hours out of your day with fun activities you get to do together AND they’ll get to leave with vacation souvenirs from their trip that they make during the DIY glass mobile sun catcher lab. It’s an experience they won’t forget, an opportunity to do some great bonding, and might just make you the host with the most most. BONUS! You will have helped our mission to spread awareness and support for Empowerteen nationwide! Can we say THANK YOU in advance?”????

????Q: “Do I need to be able to sit on the floor or be physically flexible for the mindfulness exercise portion of the Adults Empowerment Workshop?”

????A: “No! We will have lots of accommodations and options for all types of backs, hips, and knees. You want to sit in a comfy chair? You got it! You’d prefer to lay down? Here’s some pillows, cushions and blankets! We will make sure you are comfortable during this part so your focus is on setting your goal intention. OUR intention is that you leave this portion of the Workshop Benefit feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and ready to conquer your world!”????

????Q: “My Sister’s birthday is that day. Could I plan part of her celebration by bringing her and her friends to the Adults Empowerment Workshop?”

????A: “Yes! Whether you’re planning a birthday brunch, lunch, or dinner, this Workshop Benefit fits perfectly before or after because it starts at 1pm and ends at 4:30pm. What better way to honor the birth of a loved one than to gift her and all of her friends the opportunity to move forward in their lives feeling more empowered with the tools to conquer their values-driven goals? Well we sure can’t think of one because this amazing plan of yours also comes complete with hand-made gifts from the DIY glass sun catcher lab AND the amazing feeling of being showered with gratitude for supporting Empowerteens just by attending. Happy Birthday, indeed!”????

Roadside Emergencies Workshop

Ever changed a tire or jump-started a vehicle? Know exactly what to do if a car is overheating? If you're stranded by the side of the road, and waiting for help is not an option, you need to know these things whether you drive or not!

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT!

This workshop is for girls and boys ages 11-18.

You don’t need to have a driver’s license or even a learner’s permit, because the premise of this workshop is that if you’re in a car, and it breaks down for some reason, you may be the only person in that vehicle who knows what to do… after you take this workshop, of course!

Calling for help or AAA isn’t always an option if you’re out of cell service range or the place you’re experiencing the emergency is dangerous or time sensitive (such as inclement weather) and you can’t wait for help to arrive. Flagging down other passers-by isn’t always going to save you either.

It’s time to get EMPOWERED! This workshop will not only teach you HOW to handle common roadside emergencies, it will also give you the chance to actually PRACTICE the skill on different vehicles. Hearing about, reading about, and being told about how to do these things will not stick in your head in an emergency as will EXPERIENCING actually doing these things.

We will have guest instructors at each car, time to rotate through practicing the skill, take a break to warm up inside with some hot cocoa, then our guest speaker from Country Financial will bring some great car necessities SWAG and teach you about what to do if you get into a car accident, as well as share the secrets to getting the lowest rate on car insurance that you can.

You will leave with the confidence and experience to know how to handle multiple roadside emergencies, how to protect yourself while roadside, a gift bag of tools for your vehicle, a checklist to keep in the glove compartment, and the skillz to do the drillz!

Impress your friends and family during a roadside emergency! Or maybe just yourself!

Register soon as space is limited due to number of teens per vehicles and vehicular space.

Retreats

Our retreats are powerful opportunities to have fun and to “go deep” into the practices we teach at Empowerteen. Retreats are transformative experiences and many of our participants will point to life-changing exercises and conversations they’ve had during these special times.

At these summer retreats you’ll escape to the beautiful Jenkins Estate with other teen girls of the same age, and practice tools designed to empower you to be more confident, skilled, and successful. Come prepared for yoga, dancing, hiking and more. CLICK HERE for video testimonials about the retreats.

Examples of each:

Activities -dancing, yoga, tai chi, self-defense (martial arts), nature hikes, meditation, pilates, deep breathing, herb garden tour, veggie garden tour, music therapy, art therapy, drama therapy, and more

Labs -we make aromatherapy products, skincare products (cleanser, toner, acne spot treatment, lotion), chapstick, herbal tea taste-testing and blending lab, vegan chocolate truffle lab, self-affirmation socks, future message in a bottle, and more…

Lessons– confidence, self talk, body image, communication, relationships, conflict resolution, stress management, nutrition for mood and hormone balancing, letting go of labels and self-limiting beliefs, prepping for your dream career, finding success in your life and loving yourself along the way, dating, respect and boundaries, empathy, gratitude, kindness, disconnecting from digital devices, brainwave techniques for anxiety and depression, and much more…

For the Week 1 Retreat we have a day where a professional hairdresser and makeup artist glam participants up right before a professional studio photographer takes some gorgeous head shots of her, the best of which she gets to keep, AND another day where she’ll do mock job interviews with professionals from Intel, Nike, Columbia Sportswear, Mama Mia Restaurant, Human Resources Recruiters, College Admissions, and more.

For the Week 2 Retreat we have a professional help each participant create a unique goals-centered personal self-talk therapy soundtrack to keep as a powerful tool to deal with self-limiting beliefs. We also get to make traveling aromatherapy inhalers individualized to each participant’s needs that are pocket-sized and ready for daily needs complete with decorative self-affirmation label and deep-breathing effects.

Most of the participants say their absolute favorite part of both of the retreats is the Share Group each day, where we get to dive deep and discuss the REAL issues they all are facing and connect and create community and bonding with peers who understand and feel the same way. It completely opens up their world and is life transforming!! ????

Registration for the summer retreats begins at 8am on April 21st through Tualatin Hills Parks and Rec District at www.thprd.org   Use the corresponding “CH” class numbers above to find the retreats.
