Events Assistant Internship

Empowerteen is looking for an intern who would like the experience of helping to plan events for the ever popular Empowerteen Summer Retreats. An understanding and passion for working with the teenage population and their parents and spreading awareness about this beneficial program to the community would make you an ideal candidate. The intern would be working on assisting the management, organizing, corresponding and following up for projects such as:

-recruiting public service merchants

-communication with guest speakers

-recruiting community professionals for teen mock job interviews

-confirming and organizing activity instructors

-recruiting Big Sib Mentors and communication during events (and training meeting)

-communicating with community volunteers and making sure their requirements are met

-correspondence with parents and awareness of special needs for specific teens

-recruiting sponsorships, and matching teen applicants to the sponsorships

-getting contracts signed, background checks completed, and thank you notes for all involved in events

This intern will need to be organized, discreet, kind, enthusiastic, non-confrontational, outgoing, good with follow-up and have a good affect to work well with teens, their parents, corporations, professionals, and the public in general. Good social interaction skills over the phone, e-mail, and in person (dressed professionally) will be vital to this role as you will be representing the program and what it stands for in the public eye. Problem-solving with the ability to think on your feet, proficient writing and grammatical and spelling skills, as well as a mind for contributing to brainstorming and strategizing ideas with the program director are needed. Good candidate will be available by Zoom, phone and e-mail to check in on progress and able to meet deadlines for various projects. Can easily collaborate with other interns who will be working on non-profit development, social media and website content, video and photo content.

Prefer a candidate who can devote time to working on projects given at least 6-10 hours weekly in June, and is available to follow-through on event projects in July and August, as well as physically present extended hours during the summer retreats in July and beginning of August (check dates). This position covers the span of 2 months. If candidate would prefer a longer internship, this position can be up to 1 year in length.

Intern for this position will receive class credit for the work completed and have material created to add to a personal work portfolio, as well as letter of reference from Dr. Paula Pilcher.
